Braxton Family Values (abbreviated BFV) is an American reality television series that airs on WE tv and premiered on April 12, 2011.^[1] It chronicles the lives of Braxton sisters—Toni, Tamar, Traci, Towanda, and Trina—plus their mother, Evelyn.^[2]

Braxton Family Values has received favorable reviews from critics and has been recognized as a 'guilty pleasure' by several media outlets. The fourth season was the most watched season with 1.5 million total viewers, up 8% compared to the previous seasons.^[3]

The Braxtons don't talk much about their dad on the show but it's because there's still a lot of pain behind how their parents split. Papa Braxton, despite being a preacher, had a woman on the.

The show's spin-off series, Tamar & Vince, premiered on December 19, 2011.^[4]

In January 2011, WE tv confirmed that it had signed Toni Braxton for a reality series, entitled Braxton Family Values, which is marketed as one of the network's flagship shows.^[5] In its first four airings, Braxton Family Values averaged a 0.63 household rating, attracting 350,000 women in the 18-49 demographic, three times WE tv’s average in the Tuesday 9 PM slot.^[6] This led the network to renew the series for a 13 episode second season.^[7][8] In July 2011, WE tv ordered additional episodes for season two—bringing the season total to 26 episodes.^[9][10][10]

In July 2012, WE tv renewed the show for a third season that debuted on March 14, 2013.^[11][12][13] The third season returned on November 14, 2013.^[14][15] The second half of season three resumes where the series left off prior to its hiatus, with Traci discovering that her husband may have cheated on her.^[14] Trina facing her own marital troubles and makes the decision to file for a divorce from her husband.^[14] Towanda is in celebration mode as she approaches a milestone birthday.^[14] Toni is in the midst of a career rebirth as she finishes up her new album 'Love Marriage & Divorce' with Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds and prepares for her first tour in over five years.^[14] Tamar has launched her album Love and War, her tour, and taking care of her newborn son.^[14] Season 3 averaged 1.4 million viewers.^[16]

On March 20, 2014, WE tv announced the fourth season renewal of Braxton Family Values.^[16] Season 4 consisted of 26 episodes^[16][17] and premiered on August 14, 2014.^[18] On May 19, 2016, the fifth season aired to We tv. On May 12, 2017, Tamar Braxton announced in an interview with Billboard the series would return with a sixth season.^[19]

On June 27, 2018, it was reported that the show would go on an indefinite hiatus during the filming of the remainder of the sixth season after Toni, Towanda, Trina, Tamar, and Evelyn did not show up to film in Atlanta due to being underpaid.^[20] On July 19, 2018, WE tv announced that the remainder of the sixth season would begin to air on August 16, 2018.^[21]

Rising to fame in the early 1990s, Braxton quickly established herself as an R&B icon and became one of the best-selling female artists of the 1990s decade, garnering her honorific titles such as the 'Queen of R&B' and being recognized as one of the most outstanding voices of this generation. Throughout her career, Braxton has sold over 67 million records, including 64 million albums, worldwide. • Towanda Chloe Braxton (born September 18, 1973) is an Americansinger, actress and reality television personality. Towanda had her first big break in music in 1992 as a founding member of the R&B group The Braxtons, formed with her sisters. After losing two members (Toni and Traci), The Braxtons released their only album, 'So Many Ways', as a trio (Trina, Tamar and Towanda) in 1996. She has not released any music since as she is pursuing a career in acting. She has two children with Andre Carter, named Braxton Montelus Carter and Brooke Carter.

Trina had her first big break in music in 1992 as a founding member of the R&B group The Braxtons, formed with her sisters. After losing two members (Toni and Traci), The Braxtons released their only album, So Many Ways, as a trio (Trina, Tamar, and Towanda) in 1996. Trina released her first solo single called Party or Go Home on March 22, 2012.^[28] Since that time, Braxton has starred in several movies and launched a line of hair and bar company.^[29][30][31]

Braxton had her first big break in music in 1990 as a founding member of the American R&B singing group The Braxtons, formed with her sisters. The queen of the coy R&B ballad returns for her first solo album in nearly a decade, making only a few concessions to contemporary trends.

In the eight years since Toni Braxton released her last solo album, 2010’s Pulse, the orbit of her world has shifted dramatically. With her music career more or less sidelined as a result of a 2008 lupus diagnosis, the onetime queen of grown-and-sexy R&B has watched her genre tilt toward more expressly sinful subject matters. Where she excelled with emotional ballads and coy come-ons—on her 1996 hit “You’re Makin’ Me High,” she refers to her “private parts” instead of something more subtle and alluring—many of the artists who have followed have taken cues instead from the rap-influenced, sexually explicit style of Jodeci and, later, the Weeknd.

That’s not to say that Braxton has been out of the public eye. Since 2011, she’s starred in a hit reality show, “Braxton Family Values,” along with her four sisters, mother, and her two sons (whose father is her ex-husband, Keri Lewis of ’90s R&B group Mint Condition). As Toni has always been the family’s biggest name in the world outside the show, there is an undertone of benevolence implied in her decision to include her sisters on her journey. Braxton’s sister Tamar became the breakout star—she and her now-ex-husband, producer Vincent Herbert, even got a spin-off, “Tamar & Vince”—but themes of sibling rivalry and other familial turmoil, from DUI to divorce, ruled the show.

In the series’ second and third seasons, Braxton and longtime collaborator Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds began working on an album that became their 2014 duets set Love, Marriage, & Divorce. Rooted in soulful sounds and themes of triumphing over pain—the same ones they’ve been cultivating together since recording “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” for the Boomerang soundtrack in 1992—it won them a Grammy for Best R&B Album, and stands as some of the best work of her career. “I feel like I’ve been given a third chance,” Braxton told The Guardian around this time.

Perhaps Love, Marriage, & Divorce was more like one life in a cat’s nine. Braxton’s latest album, Sex & Cigarettes, comes on the heels of an even bigger twist in her life story: Earlier this year, she announced her engagement to Cash Money’s larger-than-life impresario, Birdman. Despite this high-profile relationship, you will not hear too many of-the-moment motifs on the album. (Or any cameos from Birdman’s roster: The only guest here is singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat.) The mildly risque title isn’t in reference to her own pursuits—it’s the name of a sparse piano ballad on which Braxton weeps about the stench of an unfaithful lover who stinks up their shared bed with evidence of his infidelities.

There is palpable anger in her voice on “Sex & Cigarettes,” but beneath it is a deep sea of tranquility, and it’s the latter tone that defines her performances on this album. While there are a few tracks that drift out of ballad territory, like the thick-with-bass “Long As I Live,” Sex & Cigarettes deals mostly in windswept textures—but without the high drama of some of her classic singles, like “Un-Break My Heart” or “Breathe Again.” Her performances are meditative, particularly on standout “FOH,” another piano ballad sung through clenched teeth.

It’s here where Braxton makes her grandest concession to contemporary trends: “FOH,” of course, is an internet abbreviation for “fuck outta here.” This isn’t a game that Braxton has to play, but the song’s fusion of an adult contemporary sound with more modern slang proves that she can hang in 2018 without compromising the qualities that made her famous. She is still innately part of R&B’s fabric, even now that her heyday has passed. “FOH” is not a powerhouse single like “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” but it’s confirmation that no matter which way pop’s tides turn, Braxton has a way to find her own voice and make it work.
